Update from Archbishop Hebda

GA angel small Logo - Hi Res

REORGANIZATION PLAN FILING

You may have heard that the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis filed its Plan for Reorganization this past week in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. It is a major step in the Archdiocese’s commitment to protect children, establish a counseling fund for victims, and create a trust for those who have been harmed by people in the Church.

There is a letter in the bulletin/in the back of the church from the Archbishop regarding the Plan filing and a two-page Q and A that should be helpful in why the Archdiocese filed for Chapter 11 protection in January of 2015, where the process is now, and what happens going forward. It also addresses the allegations of this past week that the Archdiocese failed to disclose all of its assets.

Please continue to pray for all of those who have been harmed by the Church over the years and for their families.

MAY 26.2016

Brothers and Sisters,

I need to let you know that our parish and a number of parishes in the Archdiocese – and many others across the state – may be sued between now and mid-May. The lawsuits are the result of the threeyear lifting of the statute of limitations, called the Child Victims Act. The attorneys for our parish and the Archdiocese are working together to handle the suits as part of the bankruptcy proceedings. These are not new claims and we hope the claims will not affect the normal operations of the parish. The claims do not involve anyone working at the parish now or anyone currently working in ministry. There is much more information to answer questions you may have there will be an insert in next week’s bulletin and you can find the information on the GA website. Please pray for all victims of abuse and for a fair and just resolution of the claims that have been filed.
