“Many of you may have already read or seen on the news, that on Friday, January 16th the archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. The archdiocese and victim representation agreed this was the fairest way to respond to victim’s and survivor’s needs. This will allow all archdiocesan resources available to be distributed equally among victims and survivors and allow the archdiocese to continue essential ministry. Guardian Angels Parish Community is separately incorporated and is not filing for bankruptcy. The archdiocese and the parish are two separate legal entities. The archdiocesan bankruptcy does not affect any Guardian Angels property, including buildings, building contents or land. Like all parishes, the archdiocese manages some funds for Guardian Angels such as insurance. We have joint representation with other archdiocesan parishes to reaffirm the continued protection of these managed assets.
In addition, should we have lawsuits or claims directed at Guardian Angels we have retained separate legal counsel. Our legal counsel is determining how this may or may not affect our parish.
We continue and need to continue our ministry here at Guardian Angels. During this difficult time, we ask for your continued support through prayers and generosity. More information will be shared with you as it becomes available. Please stand as Fr. Ortega would like to say a few words and lead us in prayer”
