First Reconciliation/Eucharist

The Guardian Angels Parish Community invites you and your child to participate in the preparations to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist in the year 2016-17. The first celebrations of these two sacraments are a very precious and important time in your child’s life. At Baptism, as parents, you accepted the responsibility of “raising your child in the practice of the faith.” Now it is time to continue the steps toward enriching your child’s faith practice.

We will be hosting the following sessions in preparation for First Eucharist:

First Eucharist will be celebrated on Saturday, May 6th, 2017 during the 5PM Mass or on Sunday, May 7th, 2017 at the 8AM, 10AM or 12PM Mass.

Proof of Baptism is required to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Unless your child was baptized at Guardian Angels it is your responsibility to provide us with their Baptism certificate. The Archdiocese requires that your child’s Baptism certificate be dated by the Church of Baptism within SIX (6) months of receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Call your child’s Baptism parish to request that they send an updated Baptism certificate to GA. Baptism certificates may be faxed to 952-227-4051 Attn: Faith Formation

It is important that your child and at least one parent come to the Learning Sessions. Godparents are always invited to come as well. Please set aside the time now and arrange for this to be a special time with your child—a time to focus on your child without distractions in preparation for these important steps in their faith journey.

Everyone is expected to be at all the sessions. Your child must attend these sessions in order to be eligible for the celebration of the sacraments. We understand that occasionally things happen that disrupt schedules. If you are unable to attend a session, we will make every effort to accommodate reasonable requests for make-up opportunities. Please leave a message with the GA Office at 952-227-4000 or via email at [email protected].

In addition to the parent/child sessions, your child must be enrolled and participating in an approved religious education program (Guardian Angels School or Guardian Angels Faith Formation).

If you are not parishioners of Guardian Angels, but your child goes to our school or Faith Formation Program and you would like him to receive the sacraments with his classmates here, we recommend that you provide us with a written letter from your pastor approving their sacramental reception at Guardian Angels Parish.

Feel free to contact the faith formation office at 952-227-4084 or [email protected] if you have any suggestions, questions, or concerns.

Thank you for your involvement and cooperation in the Guardian Angels Faith Formation program. We look forward to helping you and your children on their journey of faith.
